The Now Habit
No one can change your life but you. Thank God that He loves us too much to leave us where we are. Our lives are a journey of faith.
Incorporating this one new habit into your daily routine will change your life. It will help you fight fear and develop success in every area.
Coach Tam from Kingdom Builders Academy says, “If I were to name the one defining quality of people who succeed and climb to great heights in their businesses and endeavors… quickly scaling to 6 figures, and sometimes making it to 7 figures a few years after that… those who achieve their dreams… a quality which those who spend most of their lives stalling pretty much universally lack…
… that quality would be what I call the “now habit.”
And while there is a book with that title (“The Now Habit”), I admit that I haven’t read it… but ever since I first heard the name, it has stuck with me.
Coach Tam calls it The “Now Habit.” I love it!
And as to what this habit is.
It is when you have cultivated a habit of doing something immediately when you learn that something important needs doing. When God asks you to do something, you do it right away.
You do not schedule it for tomorrow, which is procrastination. You do not “think about it some more” first, which is rationalizing.
You do not wait for a more ideal time. Overthinking. Ruminating.
No, as soon as you learn that this action is important and must be taken, you do it.
I cannot think of a more defining hallmark of the most successful people.
Simply put, those who win have cultivated this habit.
And those who stall, stutter, and delay have almost certainly not. The enemy wants us to stall and stutter and never reach our promised land/our purpose/our destiny. Things like comfort, convenience, fear, and familiarity keep us stuck and stalling in life.
But notice: This is a *habit*; which means…
It will take much time and effort to “program” this new behaviour into your brain and body. On average, it takes 66 days to formulate a new habit. Jesus expects us to put forth effort. He knows what is best for us. The Bible tells us to continually renew our minds (Romans 12:2). Continually is an ongoing process.
Discipline is choosing between what you want and what God wants for you. God is waiting for your obedience because He has called you to be a Disciple! Terri.com
However, once you do this programming work… it’s a habit, which means it will become second nature. So, if you successfully form it, you will enter into a mode of living where you don’t even think about it by default as soon as you learn something that needs doing. You go for it. No hesitation. It’s your ‘autopilot’ response: “Done. Next.” Or “Yes, Lord!”
Never underestimate what God can do with what you have and where you are. Even if the little boy had only one loaf of bread and one fish, Jesus would have still performed the same miracle. It’s not stuff God wants; it’s your willingness to live your life, every part of it for Him. Tim Tebow
And here’s a practical tip:
If you have NOT formed this habit yet… or want to strengthen it… start by practicing it outside of your business/ministry.
Please find a few chores or activities you usually put off until later but could and probably should be done immediately… Whenever you become aware of one of these activities that needs to be done, do it immediately without thinking about it.
Ex: praying for someone-do it right away; otherwise, you may forget. Ex: take your vitamins/supplements
Ex: exercise
Ex: make that call
This will begin to strengthen the “Now Habit” in you.
And then slowly start expanding the kinds of activities you do this with… until you are executing more significant, scarier business and work-related tasks the moment you realize you need to.
And here’s what’s so great about this:
If you consistently keep this up, you will stop being afraid. Because fear can only live in the space between when you learn you need to do something and when you do it. So if there is no space – there is no fear.
Ex: going for a job interview, speaking in public F.E.A.R.= false evidence appearing real
Thus, if you make it a habit to execute or do it immediately… so there is never any space between when you learn you should do something and when you do it… you will become fearless.
Being fearless is being bold and courageous, and the Bible instructs us to do exactly that. The phrase “Be bold and courageous” is repeated 25 times in the Bible. When God repeats himself, we know that He really wants us to understand the importance of something.
And then you will have that “quality” that makes the most successful people so successful. They possess the “now habit.” They seize the opportunity when it presents itself. The time to prepare is before, so you’ll be ready when the opportunity comes. Noah prepared before it started to rain. We need to prepare for success and victory now.
The Bible says that faith is “Now.” When you begin to do things as soon as you know that they need doing, you are walking by faith. The devil says, “Do it later or Never,” but God says, “Do it Now.”
There is an extra blessing for doing things now, solving problems, and being a help and blessing to others. Matthew 25:40 it states,” And the King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me”. When we develop this habit, I believe we are storing treasure in our mercy or heavenly accounts. When we do things for others, we are doing them for God, and He is a rewarder.
By having this “Now Habit,” you become a role model, a person of excellence, trustworthy, and a true ambassador of Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:20 says,” Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us.”
An ambassador is an accredited/authorized diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country or a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity.
You may be the only Jesus that people see. Your words, actions, and habits are essential.
Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, in word and deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus. Do everything to the best of your ability as if you were doing it for Jesus.
Couple this new habit with rejecting perfectionist tendencies… and you will be unstoppable. God wants us to be invincible. He doesn’t need our perfection; He just needs our willingness. He does extraordinary things through ordinary people all the time. The Bible says, “Come as you are.”
If God told you to do it, then you better not quit. People you haven’t met yet are depending on you not quitting. Learn to dig your heels and not leave your assignment.
Incorporating this one new NOW habit into your daily schedule/routine will change your life!
It will help you fight fear and develop success. God wants you to shine brightly in life. He wants His light to shine through us, changing our lives first, then the lives of those around us, and ultimately, changing the world. You were created to excel, be successful, and be blessed. You are to be “a walking advertisement” of the goodness of God to everyone around you.
Examples:
save money every day
drink an extra glass of water
memorize a scripture verse
write in your gratitude journal
share the gospel/minister to someone
exercise
No one can change your life but you. Jesus loves us too much to leave us where we are. We aren’t where we want to be, but thank God, we aren’t where we used to be either. We are growing, learning, and changing every day. So pick up those shattered dreams and begin running again. Now is your time.
If you don’t like where you are, move. You are not a tree. Unknown
If you do not become what you are meant to be, then who?
Today, let’s choose to live by choice, not by chance. To make positive changes, not excuses. They develop the Now Habit. To be motivated, not manipulated. To be useful, not used. To excel, not compete. To choose self-esteem, not self-pity. We must choose to listen to our inner voice(Holy Spirit), not the random opinions of others. Before entering your promised land and seeing the rainbow, you know the rain. If you want to reach your goals, you must be able to endure the pain. No pain, no gain. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. If you want to see change in your life, change something you do daily. John Maxwell. The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine. Whatever you did to get where you’re at, please don’t stop doing it.
Fear and faith are contagious. Faith is NOW. Develop the Now Habit.
Action steps:
Practice integrity with yourself. If you say you will do s.t., then do it and develop the Now Habit.
Master Procrastination-don’t keep putting things off -do it! Just like the Nike slogan, “Just do it!” God’s got you. Say, “Yes, Lord!”
We all want to be winners in this life. We all want to be successful. We all want to run our race in such a way to win. We want to fulfill our destiny and hear our Lord say “well done”. The “Now Habit” is a success strategy straight from God. This strategy conquers fear and makes us unstoppable. The Now habit emphasizes integrity and excellence. It is associated with success and achieving greatness because it is the defining hallmark of the most successful people. It should be the defining hallmark of God’s children. I believe that because of this teaching, we are becoming bold and courageous. We are a NOW people. If God asks us to do something, we do it right away.
Did you know that we are always on God’s mind? He always has the best intentions for us. He wants to prosper us and give us hope. He cares about our broken hearts, our broken dreams, and our failing health. He wants to still every storm. God wants to wipe away every tear and silence fear in your life today.
Prayer:
God, Break off all avoidance strategies from us today. We bind overthinking, procrastination, fear, doubt, confusion, and blurred vision. We resist the temptation to fear because fear is a debilitating enemy. When fear tries to arise, we will resist it and verbally command it to leave in the authority of Jesus’ name. If we leave no space, then we will have no fear.
We will develop the NOW habit and fulfill our purpose.
